Definitions

Database server (DS): The DS provides central data storage by maintaining details of the Consumers, Meters and Tariff information and other consumers’ details. The DS is linked to the TS for updates of all the transactions processed.

System Monitoring Server (MS): The MS monitor the integrity of the systems operations and also send Short Messages (SMS via local GSM network) or via email (SMTP) for the purpose of transmitting configurable system alerts.

UPS:UPS is required at each Vending terminal for power back up requirement in case of mains power outage.

1.       Overview

1.1   System overview

1)        The solution we offered to this project is a comprehensive solution integrating the whole set of PLC based smart meter and AMR/AMI management system.

2)        AMR/AMI subsystem enhances meter-reading management and power consumption monitoring. The system can remotely control customers which have overdue payment or abnormal consumption switch on/off with authorization, consumption safety monitoring and region feeder line loss statistics, and so on.

1.2   System feature

•     Improve work efficiency and service quality

System automatically completes whole process of meter reading, billing, information dissemination, and power management, and using a friendly interface and the web publishing pages, enhances power management.

•     High security of system.

According to the different customers, the system assigns different permissions, and user functionality, and only after authorization, can the user be able to use the various functional modules of the system.

•     The system features tamper-proof function

Once the meter on site get involved in abnormal events like cover opening, voltage failure, current failure and current unbalance etc., it will immediately record the events and report them to the master station. The master station will display these alerts for the manager’s diagnosis; meanwhile the system will analyze the consumption information collected and record the abnormal consumption events.

The system is of flexible formation, scalable and easy to gradually extend. This system can manage in range from a residential area to a region and a city; master station can be only a single computer to build a simple system, and also can be a large computer network system of multiple nodes, and very convenient to expand.

2.       AMR/AMI system solution

3.1   Introduction

The solution is to adopt network architecture of centralized collection and distributed management of data and distributed browser management, which is to set up the system data management center. Customer data of various subsystems will be centralized to and managed by the main system. Utilitycompany of other subsystem 1subsystem 2subsystem n establish data exchange channels with the main system through the internal network. Utility companies of subsystems are only authorized to manage local customer data. The solution has high demand for system reliability and authority limit distribution because of its high integration level and complexity. 

3.2   Meter Data collection Solution




 3-1: Mixed collection solution

1)   The data communication between Meter and Concentrator is via PLC. The Concentrator communicates with master station by GPRS/Ethernet.

2)   One concentrator can manage to up to 1024meters in theory, the numbers in detail according to the onsite.
